Privacy Policy
How MathsSolve handles your data — built for students, with no ads and no data selling.
Last updated: 2026-10-08
The short version: typed problems are solved in your browser. Photos are used only to read the problem and are not stored. We never sell data, never show ads, and never let AI providers train on your work.
Who we are
MathsSolve ("we", "us") provides an online maths solver, maths calculators, an AI tutor and a worksheet generator. Many of our users are students, including students under 18, so we collect as little as possible.
What we collect
- Problems you type into a calculator. These are solved by a computer algebra engine that runs inside your browser. They are not sent to our servers unless you choose an AI feature.
- Photos and questions you send to AI features (photo solving, word problems, the AI tutor). They are sent to our AI provider to read and solve the problem, then discarded. We do not store your photos. Our providers process this data under paid business terms that do not allow it to be used to train their models.
- An anonymous usage cookie (
ms_aid) and a one-way hash of your IP address, used only to count free daily AI uses and prevent abuse. - Account details, if you create an account: your name, email address and sign-in method.
- Subscription records, if you buy a plan. Card and payment details are handled by our payment processors; we never see or store full card numbers.
- Basic analytics (pages visited, device type) to keep the site fast and reliable. We do not use advertising trackers.
How we use it
- To solve your problems and show your results.
- To enforce free daily limits and fair use, and to protect the service from abuse.
- To run your account and subscription and send service emails (receipts, password resets).
- To improve accuracy — for example by fixing problems reported with "Report a mistake". Reports include the problem and our answer, not your photo.
We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or build advertising profiles.
Children's privacy
MathsSolve can be used without an account. Accounts are for ages 13 and up: before an account is created we ask for the year of birth and store only an age band (under 13, 13–17, 18+). Students under 13 can keep using MathsSolve without an account. For students aged 13–17 we switch off marketing emails, trials, referral rewards and personalised offers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it. Where the age of digital consent is higher (for example 16 in some countries, or 18 under India's DPDP Act), we apply the stricter rule.
Purchases must be made by an adult (18+) — usually a parent or guardian.
We follow the principles of the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the UK Age Appropriate Design Code and GDPR, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023: data minimisation, no profiling for advertising, and high-privacy defaults.
Who we share data with
Only with service providers who help us run MathsSolve, under contracts that restrict their use of the data:
- AI providers — to read and solve problems you send to AI features.
- Payment processors — to take payments and manage subscriptions.
- Hosting, database and email providers — to run the service.
We may disclose information if required by law.
Who processes data for us
These are the companies that process data on our behalf, and what each one does:
- OpenAI — our main AI provider. Reads photos and solves problems you send to AI features, and runs a safety check on AI requests before they are answered.
- Anthropic — our backup AI provider. Solves problems sent to AI features when a second model is needed, for example if our main provider is unavailable or an answer fails our check.
- Mathpix — reads handwritten maths from photos. Used only when our handwriting fallback is switched on.
- Cloudflare — hosts the website and its database, delivers pages quickly, and protects the service from attacks and automated abuse (including the quick check that you're a person).
- Creem — takes payments by card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, manages subscriptions and issues receipts. Creem acts as the seller of record, so it handles payment details and sales tax.
- Dodo Payments — takes payments in India (UPI and Indian cards) for our India passes, when they launch. Like Creem, it acts as the seller of record.
- Resend — sends service emails, such as sign-in links and password resets.
- Plausible — cookie-free website analytics. It counts visits in total and does not receive your problems, photos or email address.
AI providers process your photos and questions only to answer them, under paid business terms that do not allow them to train their models on your data. They may keep short-term logs for safety and abuse monitoring under those terms.
How long we keep it
- Photos: not stored — discarded once the problem is read.
- Anonymous usage counters: kept for up to 30 days.
- Account and subscription data: kept while your account is active and then deleted, except where we must keep records (for example tax records).
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your data, and withdraw consent, by contacting us. Depending on where you live (EU/UK GDPR, India's DPDP Act, US state laws) you may have additional rights, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Secrets and API keys are encrypted at rest. Access to production data is limited to the people who need it.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change and show the date of the latest version at the top.
