Safety for students
No ads, no data selling, no stored photos. How we keep the AI on maths, who can use MathsSolve, and where to find help.
Last updated: 2026-10-08
Many of the people who use MathsSolve are at school, and plenty are under 18. These are the rules we hold ourselves to. Several of them are written into our Terms of Service, so they are promises, not just good intentions.
No ads
There are no ads on MathsSolve, whether you pay or not. No banner ads, no sponsored answers, no advertising trackers. This is a commitment in our Terms of Service.
We never sell student data
We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or build advertising profiles. This is also written into our Terms of Service. Our Privacy policy explains what we collect and why.
We don't store your photos
When you send a photo of a problem, it is used to read the question and then thrown away. We don't save it. Before it leaves your device, your browser shrinks the image and removes hidden details such as where the photo was taken.
To read photos we use outside AI providers. They may keep short-term safety logs to spot misuse of their service. Our Privacy policy names every provider we use.
Tip: crop the photo to just the question, so names and faces don't end up in the picture.
You'll always know when it's AI
Our calculators work out answers with a maths engine, not AI. When a feature does use AI — reading a photo, solving a word problem, or answering "Why?" about a step — we say so on screen. The "Ask why" panel always reminds you that you're talking to an AI, not a person.
AI can make mistakes, which is why we check answers wherever we can and label the ones we couldn't check. See How we check answers.
The AI only talks about maths
The AI is set up to help with maths problems and nothing else. If you ask it about something else, it will reply: "We can only help with maths problems."
Content filters check everything going in and coming out. Problems, follow-up questions, notes on reports and shared links are checked before the AI sees them. Everything the AI writes is checked again before it appears on your screen.
There are also some things MathsSolve simply doesn't have:
- no chatting with other users, and no messages from strangers;
- no public profiles, comments or followers;
- no questions about who you are — we never ask for personal details.
If someone keeps sending inappropriate messages, AI features are paused for that person for 24 hours.
Age rules
- Anyone can use the calculators without an account. You don't need to give us a name or an email address.
- Accounts are for ages 13 and up. When you sign up, we ask for your year of birth and keep only an age range (under 13, 13 to 17, or 18 and over), not the year itself. If you're under 13, you can keep using MathsSolve without an account.
- If you're 13 to 17, you won't get marketing emails or offers from us.
- Purchases must be made by an adult (18 or over), usually a parent or guardian. Students under 18 don't see buy buttons. Parents can find out more on our page For parents.
If you're going through something hard
Sometimes a message isn't really about maths. If something you send suggests that you or someone else might be in danger, being hurt, or thinking about hurting themselves, we stop and show a kind message and information about where to get help.
This never counts against you. There are no warnings, no pauses, and it doesn't use up any of your free AI solves.
We're a maths tool, so we can't offer counselling ourselves. But there are people whose job is to listen, and it's free to contact them. Helplines are different in each country. For example:
- India: Tele-MANAS — call 14416 (free)
- UK: Childline — call 0800 1111 (free, for anyone under 19)
- US: 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — call or text 988
- Australia: Kids Helpline — call 1800 55 1800
If you are in danger right now, call your local emergency number. Talking to an adult you trust — a parent, carer, teacher or school counsellor — can help too.
Report a problem
- A wrong answer? Use the Report a mistake button under the answer.
- A shared link that shouldn't be there? Use Report this page at the bottom of it. We can take shared pages down straight away.
- Anything else that worries you? Contact us (see below).
We read every report, and we go through them every week.
The rules we follow
We design MathsSolve around the principles of the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the UK Age Appropriate Design Code and GDPR, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023: collect as little as possible, no advertising profiles, and private settings by default.
